TDO: Still an asshole

Finally got fed up with Puretecmo always coming up with 500 errors because my host is putting too many people on a server and won't work with me.  Of course things are sort of hairy because of DNS stuff but overall, it's been a success.

Recently over at TW, apparently they've decided to hide their "anything goes" section.  I went to log in and see if anyone had issues with logging in at Puretecmo (which is the biggest reason why we have issues) and come to find out I've been banned!

Consider I have this guy block on IM and don't have a status, I have no idea what he's mad about and trying to lash out about.  However, he still appears to be an asshole.

Hey, if you're trying to get me to buy into what you're saying, I'm guessing that figuratively pissing on me wasn't going to get you the answer you wanted....assuming you wanted it in the first place.

Ultimatum 2011

Recently a thread on TecmoWorld called for my unbanishment.
Of course it came with the typical stipulations, posturing, and rhetoric.
Some thoughts:


A board merger currently is a well meaning pipe dream
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it's simply not going to happen.
Quite frankly, if this did happen I'm willing to bet at least one league if not more would start their own board and essentially negate any of the benefits.
Currently there is

• another board you can go to if you screw up on one of them
• another board you can go to if you don't care for how it's run
• a natural rivalry which encourages development

I've been around quite a while.
Puretecmo was started because the guys at OTFL were dicks.
TecmoWorld was started because the guys over at Puretecmo were dicks.
I'm pretty sure you can see the pattern.


I'm not unbanning TDO/Gary
While I appreciate a classic Mr. TSB declaration of intent morphing into a call for a truce, I fail to see why I should respond positively to any sort of ultimatum.
Regardless of what you previously read, here is how I was banned.

- I ban Gary
- He tries to circumvent the ban
- I clear his signatures linking back to his site
- He tries to circumvent the ban
- I make his signatures/statuses unflattering
- He starts a section on the board that only I or guests can see spelling out an ultimatum
- I make a post chiming in on a JJ thread and congratulating him on securing the main TPC section
- He bans me without saying anything to anyone
- He tells me through "channels" that I am banned for causing drama

If you're going to do something I consider ridiculous, I am going to point it out which I'm pretty sure negates what you consider to be a truce.
I mean, we're both ridiculous.  Look at the stupid list I just put up!  Look at any of the ridiculous vernacular you use to describe anything on this site!
Thus, ban or unban me, I truly do not care.  Regardless of that decision at some point I'll either unban you or I won't.  For what it's worth that decision currently isn't at "never" at the moment.

Puretecmo/NOOBS!
At what point can anyone go over to puretecmo.com and tell me that "we hate new people."
Is it the "Getting started in Tecmo" thread or the "Welcome to PureTEcmo" thread that specifically tells people to fuck off?
I frankly hate the term "noob" because post counts mean dick.  You're continued references to "Vets vs Noobs" is either tired rhetoric you spout off undoubtedly to paint an unfavorable picture of a rival website.

Guys, I didn't start Puretecmo.  I started the Repository about 6 months after I started visiting PT to talk about hacking roms and general Tecmo stuff.
When I started at Puretecmo openings were very limited but I was just some guy with the AIM name buckfuttor who took shit from people and just rolled with it and got the opportunity to take over a team in season two of HSTL.  Did you get a lot of shit over there?  Oh definitely.  However it was more due to the slightly racist, Kid Rock quoting, redneck schtick you decided to roll in there with and simply couldn't back it up.  Have you changed?  Definitely.  However, it's still your experience over there that made you the person who started this site out of spite and actually thinks

Most of the flack Knobbe gives me arises from him being a "vet or puretecmo loyalist"

Really?  Are you trying to pander to new people or are you simply an idiot?

In conclusion I leave you with this:

Delusional Tecmo Website owner: "Also would tecmo even exist today considering if things where left alone no newbs would have breed life into tecmo and all but a handful of these vets remain?"

 Would you expect anything else from a guy who thinks Tecmo exists online today because of him?

Epologue

Has it really been so long since I've updated?

Let me finish up the previous drama and move to what other stuff I've been up to.

So after pathetically trying to rejoin my boards several times, The Hypocritical One finally gave up and banned me.  He lived up to his name as he ridiculously maintains that he no longer moderates/administrates his message boards ever since last year when I "forced" him to blow his shit and delete every post on said precious message board that I have ever made.

When prompted for the reasoning for my bannishment, I was given this gem:

you can tell him, that while the message board is ran by the people, he is the exception and will need to speak with me if he doesn't like TW becoming a drama free zone as PT and the Repository have

This typical inane response leads me to a list of thoughts

• Given that he called PT and the Repository a "drama free zone" does this imply that his removal from the sites fixed the drama and that he was the source of said drama?  Considering this man is a self-evident expert in the field of drama I'm going to have to side with him on this one
• I am the exception?  What are the criteria for moving from the "Republic of Pretend" mode to "Monarchy" mode?  My guess if that polled "the people" would have given a resounding "we don't give a fuck about your petty shit" reply.  Egypt's democracy ain't got shit on you!
• Can you cut the "ran by the people" routine already?  Perhaps try "i hide behind the rouse of a group so that nothing can be blamed on me and people will like me"

In the end though, typically his character flaws are covered by the fact that he puts in enough time at his site to retain talented commissioners which are the lifeblood of leagues.

Two weeks after "the decision"

The first week of banishment went well.
While I was busy with work, I didn't really see anything on the boards about it and it was slipping my mind.  Imagine my surprise when I got home and I found that my banishment had been disregarded.  Once again, a putrid show of ignorance coated in entitlement finds it way onto my board.  I promptly disable this account.  Again on Saturday this is disregarded.  Finally on Sunday when he should have been preparing to actually have something to say on his radio show he was lamely creating accounts on Knobbe.org.

How can anyone be so entitled...so obtuse?  The ironic part is that having his own forum and radio show to speak about such injustices is that his own message board would give him a warning for that and his co-host probably refuses to let him talk about a subject matter which is if nothing else interesting.

Since no good deed goes unpunished his signature was completely removed and then it was relinked just for kicks.

Yes, I am being a dick.
I don't appreciate the once again misguided attempts to rope me into a vague agreement that I am not allowed to do anything that he would not want me to do while he already doesn't do anything that HE doesn't want to do. New Host

Given my recent website uptime trouble, I've decided I need to take it up a notch with my hosting. Currently I have shared hosting with jaguarpc.com and until about a year ago had little to complain about. The issues have been both the host and myself which means that I will keep them in the running for my higher $$ service.

Besides myself, I host a couple of other's Tecmo sites. I do so for free because I want them to succeed and if abandoned, they will at least remain as an archive. If I can find a couple of non-tecmo people to resell to I believe that this plus the addition of revenue of some fairly unobtrusive ads to the site (if ESPN can do it, so can I!) will help me to run knobbe.org at a break even instead of an annual financial loss.

Just taking a break from learning some Visual Basic.Net. I know I should be learning C# or something like that, but I'd rather crawl on hands and knees instead of just pulling myself with my hands.

I was really blown away by that Madison Tecmo Tourney. It really gives me something to emulate should I get one going in Lincoln again. The two big things would be date and who I could get to help me. Running a tournament by yourself is doable in small scale but is a bitch large scale.

I've been talking a lot with Maynard lately. It really helps to talk with someone about the big picture of where the site(s) might go. While I do have ideas, the framework to connect these ideas are important as well.

One month ago, I would have responded to his inane ramblings at least 5 times by now.
I mean, look at this statement:

Angry Message board owner:  The difference about MTL moving to TW from PT was zach asked me I have never approached anyone about moving a league from a different board to TW. I find it very bush league and you have openly admitted to having done this more than once now. 

I guess I mistook the peace agreement. It's only intended on the message boards. One can still lie and manipulate and be underhanded. You go ahead and keep being that guy.

If not pointing out the fact that he just called me a proverbial "Jumbo Shrimp" on that board isn't change, then I don't know what is.




The MeatSpin Tecmo League

The funny thing is that said owner doesn't really care for the "MeatSpin" Tecmo League at all.
In fact, it's the moderation or constant threat of moderation that was the main reason for it to move BACK in the first place.

This is a classic example of why two league message boards are necessary:  It's extremely tough for a message board that runs something that is competitive by nature to cater to everyone.  If there were not a Puretecmo and a NeonTecmoClearWorld, someone would eventually create the other one at some point.

Face Lift Part II and WORLD PEACE

One thing a guy has to realize is that changing the way a site is laid out can have some big side effects.
One thing I can do with Joomla is take a site and basically put the header over the top.  This way a guy doesn't have to worry about navigation/integration, it just works out for you.  However, phpBB already comes with a header and you either need to mod this thing or chop it off.  Here we just chop it off and integrate it under Joomla

Pretty Awesome!!!!!

However, 3 big problems

1.  The cost of this power is completely re-writing the URL for the board.  This means that while the old links would re-direct properly, any new ones would be dependent on always having Joomla.  That puts baby in a corner.

2.  You need to not only generate the phpBB stuff, but also the Joomla stuff.  That's a heck of a lot more processing.

3.  This completely kills a mobile theme

Thus, the solution is making a header that looks like Joomla.  While you fix all those problems, you are then left with having to update your links twice every time you change the layout.  Thus, hopefully I don't change shit around all the time.

Finally, peace on earth.

Given all I was looking for was an answer and to not be over-moderated, looks like I hit the jackpot.

Face Lift

Over the last several months, I've embarked on creating a framework for taking the hodge-podge of sites i've either created or host and form them into a cohesive yet easy to navigate site.

Let's take a little step back in time.  This was the last iteration of the original site.  It was a framework of sorts to various information about the different Tecmo games that just happened to include a message board.  As you can see I had a rough edged blog back then, which I eventually stopped caring about updating.  At that time the message board was growing pretty well and it was easy to find anything.

For the next several years it was just the message board and I used that as the primary source of information.  However, the price for using just a message board was that you had to hack the crap out of it which in turn made it tedious to upgrade.  This led to various hackings of out of date code and general instability.

A couple of months ago, I was inspired to roll out Joomla as the framework for providing an outside support system to the message board as I'd used it at work.  While a message board is great for keeping up with the day to day of a tecmo hacking community, it's also something one needs to keep up with on a daily basis.  Documenting this information in the form of news documents, faqs, etc seems like an excellent way to not only organize information, but allow for the casual observer to pick up on the "important stuff".

The first try was fairly successful.  As you can see, the message board now has navigation.  However, it proved to be a limited as six options wasn't really cutting it.

The new iteration imrpoves the layout in several aspects

• Sub-Menus that fixes the category limitation
• Compacted header that allows more real estate for content
• The entire format is cleaner

Next on the agenda, fixing the message board headers.

Erased from TecmoWorld

When you have issues with someone as a message board operator, one way you can approach is to moderate.  Then you can ban and then you can delete.

I have been deleted from TecmoWorld.  This is an organization that has put me in the "Fake Tecmo Hall of Fame"  Not Banned.....Deleted.  Every post I've ever made on that board since 2002....deleted.

My crimes
- Not wanting to work with Gary Schultz, the narrow minded owner who has an admin staff for the sole purpose of making executive decisions without having to own up to them.
- Not wanting to join the "Legion of Doom", designed to bring in random people who play random games.  He wants me to steer new people to his site to play Tecmo.
- Stating the above on his board:  I'm supposed to do what he wants when he wants it?  I'm not allowed to post my disagreement with this?

Here's the deal:

He can take that site in any direction he wants.
He has no right to tell me how to run my sites under the guise of "Tecmo Community".

Recently, I decided that I was tired of supporting a certain Tecmo site that has a certain owner who loves to come in and pimp his site. Thus, I took down the links and references to his site.

He was pissed, and the following is a copy of our conversation about why I'm "trying to tear the Tecmo Community apart" and "trying to ruin his site."

Tecmophile

For a long time I tried to get a league manager going that would be universal to the point that any tecmo league could use it. I did everything I could except attempt to do it myself.

I leave the scene for a couple of seasons, and of course it just happens! Thanks to the dedicated "Brookston" Tecmophile has been picked up and morphed into Dynastyphile. I have even put in a hand by figuring out how to upload a 32 team rom into the site and eventually I'll get a 32 team download in there as well. It's nice that I can pick back up on my php skills and hex skills after all these years, though I almost forgot about the 16 character ines header that goes on roms....

Organziation

I can't figure out how I want to make rom downloads available. All of the games uploaded are there, but you want to keep the feedback from the site, etc. It will come to me even if, God forbid, I actually have to develop something.

I killed and moved some forums around. At least this is something I can cross off my list.

I think there is a much better link between phpBB and Joomla at the moment, which I have to implement. I hope it will make the cross login issues obsolete. Finding a balance between documentation on Joomla and phpBB will take a little time though I think that Joomla is very critical to getting back to being some sort of information site.

On a personal note, I'm trying to strike a balance between developing optimization and life. In other words, spending the most amount of time getting stuff done here so that I do other necessary things. Once I can start recognizing when I'm going nowhere at a particular moment, this is probably my indicator.
